So you want to build a tribe?

So how do you build a tribe? A strong tribe, in this post-industrial environment*, isn't built from the top down. Instead it is built organically from the bottom up. A simple tribe starts with cementing ties to your extended family, a connection of blood. The second step is to extend that network to include other families and worthy individuals. A key part of that is to build fictive kinship, a sense of connectedness that leads to the creation of loyalty to the group. That kinship is built through.
  • Story telling. Shared histories and historical narratives.
  • Rites of passage. Rituals of membership. Membership is earned not given due to the geographic location of birth or residence.
  • Obligations. Rules of conduct and honor. The ultimate penalty being expulsion.
  • Egalitarian and often leaderless organization. Sharing is prized.
  • Multi-skilled. Segmental organization (lots of redundancy among parts).
  • Two-way loyalty. The tribe protects the members and the members protect the tribe. If this isn't implemented, you don't have a tribe, you have a Kiwanis club.

A couple of events we attended

A battle in Oakland

At least three police officers in Oakland, California, were shot and killed Saturday afternoon after a man pulled over for a routine traffic stop opened fire and then battled SWAT officers at a nearby building, police said.
Sgt. Daniel Sakai, from left, Sgt. Mark Dunakin and Sgt. Ervin Romans were killed in the shootings.

The black "man", a 26-year-old Oakland resident, was later fatally shot in a shootout with a SWAT team in an apartment complex where he hid. His name was Lovelle Mixon.

A fourth officer -- also shot -- remained in critical condition

Many people in Oakland were seen dancing in the blood of the fallen officers..also many others showed up at the hospital cheering for the death of officers.

My thoughts and prayers go out to them.

Great protest today!!

Today we protested the Zionist wars that have been going on for more then half a decade. It started off cloudy and drizzling but turned out to be a nice day about half way during the march, sadly I forgot to bring my camera. but we might have a video soon. Thank you everyone who attended. And I look forward to meeting again with our two new members who have just joined BANA, thank you for attending our rally!

Have some snacks!

At BANA we are very pleased to announce the very exciting development of a new National Anarchist Network! The Sacramento National Anarchists Collective (or "snack" for short!) had a founding meeting and launched a new website today! Some BANA members were privileged to be on site for the occasion and we believe that SNAC is a great start in the right direction for the people of the Sacramento area who have been marginalized for far too long.

The SNAC collective's website can be viewed at the following link, be sure to send them your support!
